This is what we woke up to this morning. A little coating of powdered sugar. A rarity where we live. Bailey was so excited to wear his new gloves so that he could make a snowman with the other kids while we waited for the pre-school bus. It was all gone by the afternoon (what little of it there was) and Bailey can't wait to see what the weather tomorrow brings.
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

And, I Will Just Leave It At That
"Good morning," I said into the telephone, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, "The school just called. It's raining again, so they are postponing the field day, again."
"I figured as much," replied my mother-in-law, "How about you let me know when they do decide to do it."
I opened my mouth to reply, but I heard her hang up.
Seems like I am not the only one getting tired of this waiting game.

Holding Down The Fort, Literally
The typhoon finally did arrive and it was everything they said it was going to be loud, strong winds and heavy downpours. Bad enough that they called off preschool. The call came at 6:30 this morning, unfortunately, after I had already made Bailey's lunch and filled his thermos with barley tea. But with a flick of the wrist lunch became dinner and Bailey and Sophie shared the thermos (and by shared, I mean spilled it all over each other) of tea while they watched the morning kid's shows.
Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the unexpected day off from preschool, maybe it was Memphis (not sure about that one? Go ask Pam Tillis.) but normal was completely thrown out the window here today.
But, little patches of sunshine happened to peek throw every once in a while.
Bailey and Sophie sitting on the sofa looking at a picture album.
B: Look, there's Daddy.
S: DADADADADADADADADA.
B: That's my Daddy.
S: No, no, no. MY DADADADADA
B: No, my Daddy.
S: (erupting into tears) No, no, no. MY DADA MY DADA.
Playing restaurant with Bailey.
B: What do you want?
M: Hmmm, a chicken sandwich and a large order of fries.
B: Wanna drink?
M: Iced cafe au lait, please.
B: Ok. Chicken, fry fries and ice cafe alright. Just wait a four (few) minutes.
So, don't worry about us, despite the typhoon we are doing alright or is it au lait?!?!?

Ty Who?
This morning with a still half asleep but too awake to go back to sleep Sophie in my arms I quietly closed the bedroom door and headed to the living room. I paused in front of the curtains that covered the sliding glass door. Sophie raised her head and moved to open the curtains with her chubby, little arm. I moved one small step back. I knew what was coming, she didn't.
You could hear the wind whistling outside and it was all over the news last night. 100% chance of rain. High winds. And of course, it is that season, so it is to be expected.
I put Sophie down on the sofa and opened the curtains a fraction of an inch. Braver still, I opened the lace curtain and pressed my nose up against the cold glass. Windy, but where was the rain? Wasn't this supposed to be "one powerful storm"?
I laughed and opened the curtains all the way. Sunshine streamed in and Sophie covered her head with her blankie.
Now, it almost time to go pick up Bailey from the bus stop and still not even a little sprinkle.
Knock, knock.
Whose there?
Ty.
Typhooooooooonnnn. (this is the part where you blow in someones face thereby simulating the wind and rain (if you happen to spit).
Here in Chiba, at least, we are still waiting for the typhoooooooonnnnnnnn.
