It Works For Me Wednesday

I stumbled upon the blog Rocks In My Dryer home of It Works For Me Wednesday and I thought that I would give it a go.

You buy your sweet baby a toy and they like the box it came in better. That favorite toy sure needs to be washed, but you can't pry it out of your little ones hand. Tender, teething gums need soft toys for chewing. You are worried that you are going to lose that special "lovey" and then what?!?

My solution- the handkerchief octopus. It is inexpensive, easily washed, sost and best of all, easily duplicated. I keep one at home, one in the diaper bag and even one in the car. All you need is a large handkerchief, could be white, colored or printed it is up to you. Basically, you just knot the middle and each of the four corners. When you are finished it should look like a four-legged octopus. I usually have her hold it when I feed her and I try to handle it as much as possible so it has that comforting "mommy smell". It is also good in the stroller to keep baby busy while you shop or just to keep baby's hands from yanking out that pacifier AGAIN!! (Those eyes that look up at you, so innocent, so sweet, when they pull the pacifier out of their own mouth, "Mommy, why did you do that. Fix it, fix it!!)

Sophie loves hers. You can watch the video in the post below to get an idea.

That is a great idea! I make lovies with heads and all that, but they take forever and I have other things that need done before those. The octopus is an awesome idea that I will prolly adopt at our house :D Thanks!

You know what's funny? I've seen similar lovies in very expensive stores - what a great idea! It would make a nice shower gift add-in, too.

I love it. It reminds me of the church dolls my neighor loves to make with the girls.

Reminds me of the handkerchief dolls my daddy used to make for us to play with during church.

What a sweet idea! My little guy latched onto a duck that is now of course nowhere to be found, poor duck. Ah well!! Our wfmw tip is up as well ;).

Just a warning. I made my son a lovely out of scraps of flannel with satin blanket binding around it. We had two. (I made more, but 2 were the ones he'd use). One got lost for a long time. After it was found, 8 months or so later, it was not as worn as the other. He dismissed it then. At almost 7, it still sits in his bed. It no longer goes on trips with him, but it stays safe at home.

But what a good idea!

Smart girl! We've been running around the house looking for the "lovey" or driving back to wherever we left it. My kids are older now, but I will pass this along to my nieces. Yikes! I'm a great-aunt!

Welcome to the WFMW craze! It's kind of like Lays potatoe chips, "Bet you can't post just one!" Oops, did I just give away my age?

That's a great idea. :) Our oldest daughter was so attached to her little lamb that we searched online until we found 2 more that were identical and we rotate.

Great (and thrifty!) idea! I think my little guy would have fun chewing on this type of lovey.

Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my WFMW too! :)
