Turn It Off

Amazing things happen when the TV is turned off.

Bailey "reads" his favorite Thomas book to Sophie and she actually sits and listens to the whole thing!

The kids rediscover all those toys they never play with long enough for me to do the dishes, a load of laundry and eat breakfast.

Bailey listens and does what you say instead of ignoring you in favor of the TV.

Bailey volunteers to clean up his toys before dinner.

Beautiful drawings and sculptures of play-do decorate the living room.

What a beautiful way to break a bad habit and after the initial whining was over, Bailey never asked to watch it again. A TV-free morning. A peaceful morning in which I got more done than when the TV was on. I can see how this no-TV thing could become our new habit.

Oh you know what I do? My little one is 18 months old. I picked my favorite (and his) during the time he's awake and that is the only time he watches tv. So he watches Sesame Street in the morning and in the afternoon he either watches 30min of tv, or one video (like Blue's Clues)....

When our kids were in 5th, 4th, and 2nd grade. We went a whole year with no TV, they all three, will tell you that was their single most most favorite memory, because all of a sudden we did everything together and our activity level just soared! :)

Wonderful that Bailey reads to Sophie! What a darling picture that conjures up! :)
