Learning By Example

Bailey's day care moved over the weekend to a bigger space. I had told Bailey about it several times, but I don't think he got it.

As we passed the turn off for the old building, Bailey tugged my sleeve.

"Remember, we are going to the new place today," I reminded him and his face crumbled.

I turned like we were going to the old building and showed him that no one was there.

"Where is everybody?" he asked, bottom lip trembling.

"They are at the new school. Do you want to go to the new school?"

His reply was to throw his arms around my neck, wrap his legs around my torso and cry into my neck.

"Ok," I compromised, "Let's just take a walk."

On the way to the new building, I pointed out places he knew like the convenience store and the arcade. He was still holding on for dear life when we reached day care. The windows were decorated for Christmas and so I pointed out Santa and a Christmas tree as we walked in the front door.

He raised his head and looked around. From out of the corner came a little voice, "Bailey-kun! Good morning!"

Bailey couldn't wait to get down. He threw off his shoes and jacket and tackle-hugged his friend. Then they were off, exploring the new place together.

I think when Hubs comes home tonight I am gonna tackle-hug him too!
